My goal is tolower my monthly expenses, possibly by consolidating where possible. I have several related questions, some ofwhich probably do not belong in this category, but since theyre related Iwould prefer to ask them all here rather than break them up and post them inmultiple categories.
I have a smallbusiness office on the ground floor of a large apartment complex which is surroundedby a marina located near the beach In the Los Angeles area, so Im definitelyin an urban area. I have Verizon DSL, a Verizonlandline, and a Verizon fax line in the office. I have a houseboat which is in a slip at a dock about half a city blockdown the street from my office. On thathouseboat, I have Verizon DSL, a Verizon landline, and DirecTV. I have the following questions:
1. Would it be feasible to drop Verizon DSL atthe houseboat and access my office DSL there? I currently have the lowest level of Verizon DSL at my houseboat and Ibelieve I have the same level in my office. Would I need to upgrade my office DSL or modem in order to be able to accessthe DSL from my houseboat?
2. I use two computers wirelessly on my officeDSL. One computer is being used wirelesslyall day on my houseboat. The TV on thehouseboat is on all day as well. Is itpossible that connection problems could result if I try to use everything onthe office DSL?
3. Do I need to purchase some type of long-rangeaccess point wifi system? If so, which brand/model would be best? Is there one that is powerful but would berelatively easy for a novice to set up?
4. Im considering dropping my office landlineand using my cell phone for my business since Im using it at least 85-90% ofthe time anyway. I am currently using myfax line for my office DSL connection so the landline is not necessary. My only concern is that I might seem lessprofessional without a landline phone sitting on my desk and I dont want tohave a dead phone sitting there as clients frequently ask to use the phone tomake a personal call.
5. Would it violate any of Verizons rules touse the same DSL at these two locations? I dont want to do anything to get on Verizons bad side. Im sure the Verizon user agreement prohibitssharing, but I would not be sharing with anyone who does not reside at myhouseboat. In effect, Im sharing withmyself.
6. I have DirecTV at my houseboat and Imthinking of dropping it and getting Dish instead to obtain one of the low-pricedpackages that are available only to new customers. If I buy a flat screen TV for my office, would I be able to connect to my houseboat Dish on the office TV?
I really needto know both the pros and cons of these possibilities, so any information wouldbe appreciated.
Thanks.
