Solved: Windows 7 won't open xlr fils

I have MS Office 2007. I previously had it installed on my XP PC. I now have it on Windows 7 64 bit. It seems to only recognize xls files. I have had to open EXCEL and from file open the xlr file, because if I try to open the file from the folder it is not recognized. My question is, after I finally get it opened, what format do I save it in so that it will open when the file is clicked on. I have numerous xlr files and I would like to convert them as easy as I can.
I miss my XP so much!!!!!
