I am working on a resort's WiFi network. They have guest units ("bure" in Fijian) spread out on an island. The ADSL comes into the main building then goes out to several bures, some of which feed other bures. All are connected via Cat5e. In some cases, the guests connect through a local (in-room) router that has three routers in between them and the ADSL modem. Is it best to run the incoming signals into the WAN ports and use local DHCP, or run the incoming signal cables into a LAN port, turn off local DHCP, and let the main router (with ADSL modem) supply DHCP service?
I am concerned because, in another situation, we had trouble with some adroid phones geting IP addresses from a central DHCP server because of long latencies from too many hops. That case had CPEs and I think maybe they were the source of the problems we saw. ???
Thanks for any advice!
