Last night I was working on my "old" laptop, a Gateway M685-e, for about 2 hours while plugged into the wall outlet. All of a sudden, the computer shut off without powering down. It would not turn back on. When you press the power button, the battery LED blinks 4 times. The power source LED does not light up green when plugged in either. If you take the battery out, plug in the AC adapter and try to power up, NOTHING! Could it be that I fried the power source and battery at the same time? Are there any inexpensive tricks to determine if it is terminal. I dont want to waste money on a new battery.
