I am beyond frustrated with this. Intel MB: D945GTP AAC97837-300. Bought this CTL pc that has W7 Ultimate 64 (from the properties screen). I believe that it was upgraded from XP. The problem is that it sits with a black screen and the flashing upper left cursor for 3 minutes until it starts doing the normal W7 loading, which goes off smoothly, and works just fine from then on. I believe that the guy that installed the W7 has done these successfully before, but I wonder if something went wrong with the install.
It has only onboard video and no additional cards of any kind. Ive tried many things. Ive tried memory sticks individually. The cmos battery is over 3 volts. Ive tried disabling all boot options but the HD and the same problem.
My neophitism makes me think that either the bios can't find W7 due to a problem in where it is looking or a possibility the HD has a problem. Do I need to do a test like chkdsk first to make sure the HD is ok? One idea I was given was to do F8 select the HD and that would have the bios look for a boot sector. Problem there is that F8 takes the 3 minutes also and just brings up the safe mode screen. Is there that option in that screen or somewhere else for this?
The repair options via system repair have done nothing.
When I put in an install disc and tried the repair option it gave me a message that was saying something about how the disc was not proper to repair my system. I have used this disc successfully recently for a different install and it has all versions and in 32 and 64. I selected the right option there.
I also have a USB install that is Pro 64 so I set the bios to boot to usb first. I selected repair and startup repair and it said that it could not detect a problem. If somehow I would need to use this, being a different version I would have to reinstall without saving files. May be better to keep the Ultimate though as it may be needed to match the key properly.
The W7 shows as genuine and has a key. I suppose that I can do a clean reinstall and format if necessary. But I wouldnt mind trying some ideas to fix it in a different way to learn, and I can try anything that you want me to. Whatever is better or easier. I have the install disc or USB that I can use. The only file or anything that would be a problem at all is the Office '10 in it. I believe that I can get the download to reinstall Office and I have the code. I can ultimately do a full reinstall with formatting if necessary. If so, any specifics options to do related to the formatting?
What can I do here? I can do anything that is asked although this pc is not always following protocol. Ive about worn out the start button and mouse doing restarts. Thanks to anyone who can help
