Laptop won't play DVD's

My laptop won't play DVD's any longer? I get the following message when I try launching using Windows Media Player:

Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. You might need to adjust your Windows display settings.
Open Display settings in Control Panel, and then try lowering your screen resolution and color quality settings

I have tried reducing resolution and updated the video driver and this still doesn't work. Can anyone help please?
