Here's a strange problem I'm having. PC freeze up (no blue screen), screen distorts and sound starts looping, only associated with Windows Media Center and XBMC. Requires a hard shutdown and reboot.
In Media Center, live TV plays fine, and records HD TV fine, but will go into freeze at any time while playing back recorded TV. I can mediashare and play these same recordings on another PC perfectly.
In XBMC, playing 1080P movie backups no problem, files are stored on a Mediasmart server. I have only seen XBMC freeze doing simple things like scrolling the movie list or hitting the escape button.
Day to day PC functions perfectly, streaming MOG and browsing. I am attaching a photo of the 46" monitor I'm using with the freeze up screen. If windows is logging this as an error, maybe somebody can tell me where to look as I haven't been able to find it. I am running a HT Omega Claro soundcard.
What I have done attempting to troubleshoot:
Updated Catalyst drivers and HT Omega drivers
Changed the INWin supplied 300w power supply to a quality 450w.
Replaced the AMD processor I was using with a BE-2400 low power unit.
Upped the Ram from 2GB to 4GB and then reverted back to 2GB after no change.
Disabled and re-enabled Media Center as I read somewhere this might be the problem, wasn't.
And last but not least, changed out the 4 yr old legacy ATI card I was using, to a new MSI ATI card. When I purchased this highly rated card, I purchased (2) of them, so, I swapped the card out with another and still no change. Installed latest Catalyst driver along with the new card. I don't remember if the freeze ever occurred with the Legacy card or not.
I'm looking for a solution, rather than just buying another video card, which may not be the problem anyway. And I don't want to blow up the hard drive and start over either..Help!
