Hello guys.. I've run across an issue that I have never seen before and has me baffled. A lady brought me both her kids laptops and said they were both randomly shutting off.. They are emachines E528's. I naturally thought it was a heat issue and sure enough it is. The fans were not running. So I put another fan in one of them. Still no go.. Then after swapping fans, RAM, processor, and even motherboards to no avail I then decided to do a factory re-install of Windows. After doing that the fans run. I had decided it was just some glitch or maybe even a virus. Au Contraire! After I install SP1 the fans stop working again. I realize a machine can run without SP1, but it's needed for certain updates such as IE10 and others.
So, does anyone have an answer other than not installing SP1?
