Motherboard virus... is it possible?

hey guys i just bought a second hand motherboard a while ago and i'm worried that it may have a virus. does anyone know if it's possible for a virus to be saved in the motherboard's memory and then install itself on my hard drive? does anyone know? can it save itself to the BIOS and then install it to my hard drive?

i'm really worried about this!
