Solved: Firefox and IE will not load websites

$

Hello, I am curethritis running Windows 8 On a 6-month old Toshiba Satellite. Everything was fine until two days ago when After a Firefox update the browser stopped loading any websites. Thinking something went wrong with the update I uninstalled Firefox, and opened IE to download it again. This is when I realized IE was having the same issue.

To clarify, my wifi connection is fine. Outlook and other web-based programs are working fine. I pinged Google.com through Command Prompt, and the results indicate a good connection to the Internet (average response 17ms). Also, dropbox is updating without any problem.

As soon as I am able to load and run TSG SysInfo I will post the results.

Hard Drive Boot Problem

HP G72 Laptop will not boot. When first turned on a message appears "Preparing Automatic Repair" then
"Diagnosing your PC" followed by Automatic Repair screen with message "Your PC did not start correctly"
It seems the hard drive has crashed because all options to repair it do not work. I need to know if there is
any way to retrieve the files from the hard drive. Most files were copied to an external drive, so all was not
lost. The last option to fix the computer is to reset the PC and lose all files. What is my best option?

Anybody know how to completely get rid of the timeout?

It's currently set to 999 before it starts a specific setup.

Is there any way it can be set to NOT timeout, or at least DAYS instead of seconds?

Switching Hosts

Hey all,

I was pointed in this websites direction for help regarding switching web hosts, so I really hope I can find the answer here.

My current web host is trying to charge me a ridiculous amount for another year, so I've decided to make the switch to a more affordable host.

I've watched numerous videos and read through 5-6 guides on swapping so I'm confident I can handle swapping the domain.

My problem is copying the actual site, my current host designed the site around their own CMS. I've copied all of my files from my current host to my new one and nothing seems to work. I've backed up my site using the cpanel as well.

Any insight would be much appreciated.

Issues with being able to go on chrome without ads

Today, I was on Tumblr and I was just searching as usual. Suddenly, a pop up appeared as i was trying to click the new tab button and instead of clicking the new tab button, I accidentally clicked the pop up. It happened so fast I didn't even catch what was on the popup.

I figured it was no big deal and decided to go and continue searching tumblr because that's what I typically do whenever I'm bored. So, I click on the refresh button built into tumblr and suddenly it's taking much longer for the webpage to load. I'm confused, so I just sit there and wait for it to load.

When the page finally starts to load, the first thing that pops up is a "search with bing" bar that I'm positive I never installed. Then, three ads pop up, one in the upper right corner, one in the lower right corner and one on the left side.

Tumblr never had ads before. So naturally, my first idea was to inspect. and upon further inspection, the ads are from OffersWizard. I searched all over for recommendations of how to get rid of this awful adware and stumbled across a page telling me to download AdwCleaner, so I did. I had it scan the computer and then clean it, and figured that that had gotten rid of my problems.

I was wrong. I log back on and open up chrome, and open tumblr and again, what do i see but three ads and green underlined text leading to suspicious websites. I repeated this process a total of three times and every single time it's come back. I'd greatly appreciate your help.

Empty Google Chrome notifications

Hi, I use Google Chrome and lately they started sending me notifications, but every time I click on the alert icon in the corner of the screen, it shows an empty box (see attachment) and it says that there's no message, even though it pops up there as if there is one, and after I click on it the icon disappears as if I saw the message when there wasn't any. It's quite strange.

Does this happen to any other Chrome users? Does anybody know what this is about? If anybody has any information, I'd very much appreciate if they let me know. Thank you in advance!

USB External IDE HDD

Hey

I have a odd problem.

I attempted to boot an IDE drive (Seagate ST3250823A, Barracuda 7200.8, 250GB HDD, +5V 0.46A, +12V 0.56A) within an external USB Enclosure (Shintaro 3.5" External PATA, 240V AC Powered with internal PSU, No voltage noted on unit) and the following occurred:
- loud sporadic ping like sounds and the drive not booting up
- powered cycled and problem persisted (not sure how many times)
- powered cycled and the drive not powering up
- I successfully tested the external USB enclosure with another IDE HDD (Seagate ST3250820A, Barracuda 7200.10, 250GB HDD, +5V 0.72A, +12V 0.52A).

I then decided to test the HDD in an another external USB Enclosure (Shintaro Hard Drive Docker, DC 12V 300mA by external PSU) and the hard drive booted up and ran all night without any problems.

I tested the same drive again in the previous external PATA and no power. And yes the data is backed up.

Has anyone else heard of this problem?

Cheers

Android Changes the IP Reservation in the Router

Hello. I have some android devices, and they are assigned static addresses which they get from DHCP. The problem is that they are changing these reservations every once and awhile. I can't set up a router with that subnet, and let it have it's IP address it wants to have, because each android device wants a different subnet, so I'd have to start setting up lots of subnets for the android devices. I want them to leave their IP reservations alone so that their wifi will continue to work. What's causing this issue, and how do I fix it, or do I have to assign static addresses from the device itself to get this to work?

Here is the suggested resulting log from above sysinfo utility:

Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.2

Hard Drives: C: Total - 76316 MB, Free - 44143 MB;
Motherboard: Dell Inc.,
Antivirus: AVG AntiVirus Free Edition 2014, Updated and Enabled

I recently became infected with an unknown virus both on PC and my notebook. I'm going to clean this notebook first as I use it most often for most functions. I first realized that I was infected when my (Steven Gould) Windows CleanUp was deleting over 30-some files everytime it was run...even if I closed it and ran it immediately...I opened my Temp folder and actually saw all these entries just appearing before my eyes despite not having any browser window open. I can send you the log if you request, but want to make sure the 4 logs requested can fit in this posting. Then today my AVG 2014 tells me about one file and while I'm googling that threat another warning came up...they are:

c:\ Program Files (x86)\Browsersafeguard\uninstall.BrowserSafeguard.exe

and: IDP.Program.D1B0A5C0 C:\Users\Notebook\AppData\Local\Temp\rtinstaller.exe

One site says to delete all corresponding registry entries, but doesn't identify them or tell me how to identify them...I'd rather trust HJT and have you tell me which registry entries (if any) need to be manually deleted. I sure hope you can help...then we can do the PC.

Here are the logs in the order requested...

Stuttering and Start Up Errors

For the past few months there will be about one day a week where my computer will start having stuttering problems. Usually nothing big, but mildly annoying.
However yesterday it got real bad. For hours straight it would stutter every 5 seconds making any task impossible. Even today it was still stuttering terribly.
However what really made me worry was when I booted up my computer and it didn't start up properly and I had to do a start up recovery.
Even now as I type this, the stutters are still there, just annoying as ever.
Anyone know what could have caused this?

Windows 7 violently lags then freezes after 10 minutes

Hi,
My parent's computer is acting up. I can't remember the full specs but it is running Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit on a 3.2 GHz processor with 8GB RAM. It runs smoothly after startup for about 10 minutes but then begins to violently lag. A few minutes later it completely seizes up (the mouse moves around the screen fine but no clicks or keyboard input are registered). The only way to fix it is to hold down the power button to force a shut down.

I have run AVG (the paid version) which picked up a couple of issues and dealt with them but the issue remained. I ran Malwarebytes which also picked up a couple but didn't fix anything. The computer works great in safe mode, absolutely no lag or anything.

What could be wrong? These two anti-malware programs aren't picking up anything. Is it time to erase the hard drive and reinstall Windows?

All devices except laptop connect to wifi?

About a week ago, my laptop just stopped connecting to my wifi. I have an HP Pavilion dv6 running Windows 7 (64-bit). I've had this laptop for about four years, if I'm not mistaken, and I have never had problems such as this before. It can detect neighboring connections, but it just doesn't detect my personal wifi. The router/modem is not the problem because I can connect to them with my other devices just fine (Samsung Galaxy S3/S4). I am able to connect via Ethernet cable, but of course this is a terrible inconvenience. Cuddling my router is not something I feel I'd want to do just to get some work done.

I have tried:
- restarting my router (Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Router model WNDR3400)
- restarting my laptop
- system restore
- uninstalling and reinstalling wireless drivers (originally was Intel WiFi Link 1000 BGN, when reinstalled it changed to Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000)
- changed router settings (router channel, password/security options)
- manually connecting through Control Panel (SSID is not set to be hidden, but still couldn't be found)
- troubleshooting (nothing was found)
- updating basically everything (router firmware, drivers, software, etc.,)

Long story short, none of this worked. I feel as though I have tried everything I could find within multiple forums and endless internet surfing, but I am simply out of ideas at this point.
The connection on my other devices is slow, but they connect nonetheless.
Any help is strongly welcomed, perhaps it may be time for a new computer/router..
Note: I am not as tech savvy as I make myself appear to be in this post, but I know my way around the computer for the most part. :)

Can't get out of sleep mode, ???

I have a compaq presario, CQ56 115DX Notebook, by HP.
Problem started last week and resurfaced again this monday.
could not get my notebook out sleep mode, the caps lock was blinking once, indicating a cpu problem.
took it in to a tech, who changed the cpu. System was running until 2 days, ago, when again, could not get it out of
sleep. Press the power button, turns the laptop off completely, press again, back to sleep, with caps lock blinking once, indicating cpu issues. Took it back to tech, who now thinks it could be the motherboard.
Washed the motherboard, still will not boot up. So how can I boot it up, whats the problem?

Lenovo R60 XP Pro no sound

I purchased this machine to use for running a map program. I was shown that it worked fine but there was no audio. I paid $60 for it. It works well with the map program, However, the audio issue did bother me so I decided to see if I could get it working. It's a laptop so I figured there would not be a separate audio card. It's possible to re-install everything (so they say) to it's original condition when it left the factory. I did that It didn't take long to see that the guy I got it from had already done that. The audio and video drivers seem to be missing. They can be downloaded from the Levono website. How to install them gets interesting.

I managed to get it working a little. When it starts (from booting) the windows "chime" works a little. At first there were only 2 notes......I kept tinkering and finally got the entire chime. The most useful thing was getting rid of about a half dozen attempts to load Internet Explorer. I ran Hijack This and there they were. I have never seen anything like this. There were 65 entries in that scan. Lots of stuff I have never heard of. I think most of it is "Think Pad stuff. It looks like the audio is functional but something is blocking it. I have never seen one of these before and it sure has me stumped.

I would really appreciate any help that anyone can offer.

Thanks for looking
