Hello All,

At my work we have an old version of Trend Micro Worry-Free Business Security installed. Whilst the maintenance agreement for this software expired in 2012 we have (legally) kept the Trend Micro Security Agent installed on workstations, as can be seen below.

As can be seen above the virus updates continue to work, and as shown below there are a number of active components including 'Real-time Scan' and 'Web Reputation'.

It even appears possible to manually set each client to perform a scheduled scan, as can be seen in the yellow highlighted section below -

All of this suggests to me that the only major feature which we are lacking is central management, and automated reporting on our workstations.

My question is "How exposed are we to viruses and other security threats"?

I have some experience (with a previous employer) using AVG Internet Security for Business, and this software package provided central management, and alerts of detected threats. At the moment I feel that I am 'flying in the dark', and I am wondering what I can do about it without 'breaking the bank'!

Any advice and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Davo

Wifi trouble

My apartment's internet and cable provider recently went through a conversion of some sorts. Ever since then my wifi hasn't worked. I use my phone, tablets, DVD players and gaming consoles for Internet use; no laptops or computers.

When I moved in I plugged up my router and had wifi for seven months without any issues. My phone and tablets say they are connected with a strong signal but will not give me access. However when I plug my 360 or a friends laptop to the Ethernet cable, I magically have full access.

I have spoken to customer service of my cable provider and router manufacturer (Netgear) with no help. They claim everything they see is working fine. Am I missing something or is this outside of my control. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I have two digital cameras (Olympus and Canon), whose computer software is obsolete. To try and download my pictures to the computer, I splashed out on a Hama card reader. The reader seems to work fine, but the problem begins when I have to transfer the images to the computer.

Everything seems to happen as it should, until it gets to the point where the screen on whatever programme I use, says `Loading` but apart from the progress bar moving to just before the end before stopping, it doesn`t download any image. It registers each picture as a list of jpeg images from the camera memory cards but that`s it.

The Canon help desk has told me what to do, but that only works up to the point that I have mentioned, so I am assuming that it is a computer driver problem or something similar. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium (32) and the system was fully updated with security tweaks and the like, two days ago. I don`t want to invest in new cameras because the ones I have were expensive and I want them and I to grow old (but still functioning), together.

I would be obliged for any help that the community can give me.

how to get rid of this problem....pls read (Ad.Adsmate.com etc)

my router got infected by something which leads all the devices connected to it to some ads site n pop-ups
few months back my computer and phone started having this weird problem,
whatever site i visited (both from my phone or laptop) i get many pop ups and redirected to some ads.adsmate.com/xxxxxxxxxxx sites suggesting me to download stuff(on phone) or showing random ads...
it was very frustrating as i could not visit the site i wanted to at all !
on my phone i was unable to access Instagram it used to say failed to update, many other problems were there, i was unable to download content on my xbox as well.

i always have kaspersky internet security installed on my laptop. But yes no protection on my phone.
at first i thought its some kind of virus/adware/Trojan problem that might have got past my antivirus so i tried many bloatware, adware removal tools but nothing helped in killing this problem

then after searching over the internet (not to forget all this ads thing happening every second ! ) i came to knew that all this is happening cause Router got infected and only method of getting rid of this problem was to reset the modem so i called the guy from my service provider. (bsnl broadband) First he didnt believe that modem is infected he kept insisting that my laptop is infected then i told him that i cannot access my gateway either and this is happening on devices that use internet via modem.
So he finally believed me n reset the modem. Everything started to work like a charm!
Just a few days passed by and all those nightmare like problems started again !!!!

I was like wat the hell is happening !!
then i searched again for this problem then i came to knew that changing my DNS server to google ones would solve this.
And yes they actually did .
I had to change DNS on my laptop on my phone and on my xbox.
Any new device that connects to my wifi gets this problem and its very frustrating for guest (sometimes nice too hehe:D)
But my router is still infected and i think its hindering my speeds n traffic
my phone's wifi stops working randomly, i turn it Off thn On then sometimes it starts working.

Changing the DNS to googles 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4 n port 24 (on phone) is not the final solution
how do i disinfect my router, resetting it clearly isnt helping.

today i tried if the problme is gone now and removed the googles DNS n used DHCP and the problem is still there only difference is that now it directs to some other website across all devices.

attached are the screenshots of my phone..take look at the web address..

Solved: About RAM 12.0 GB (6.00 GB usable)

My PC specifications:

Detalis From CPU-Z 1.72.1
Processor: Intel Core i5 750 @ 2.67GHz
Motherboard: P55A-UD3P by Gigabyte Techonology Co. Ltd.
Memory: Kingston 4GB (2x 2048 MB & 2x 4096MB) DDR3 | Dual Channel | NB Freq. 2131.7Mhz | DRAM Freq. 666.2MHz
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5770
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 (6.1) Ultimate Edition 64-bit

Possibly Relevant Information
PSU: Extreme Power Plus 500W (Product No. RS-500-PCAR-A3)
Casing: Cooler Master CM690

My attempts to rectify it:

  1. msconfig -> Boot tab -> Advanced options... -> Unchecked Maximum memory -> Restart
  2. Differ RAM sticks setup configuration (e.g. slots 1 and 3 changed 2GB to 4GB and likewise for slots 2 and 4)
To explain what I did for that: Turn off desktop, removed power cable, held power button for around 30s (to remove excess discharge), and plugged the sticks, plugged in cable, pressed power button. Did for each configuration.
Results for:
  1. Issue persisted
  2. After first change (and the consequent changes and finally back to the original configuration) motherboard I think beeped (long beeps with intervals; beeped with every configuration).
Possibilities (if true, how do I go about in rectifying it/them?):
  • Half of each RAM is used
  • BIOS not updated

To note: I am sure that the RAMs are not damaged and were placed properly; images below for reference:

Solved: One site won't load

Hi
In the last few days one particular site won't load for me. I've tried on my laptop (Win8, Firefox), on my android phone Samsung Galaxy S4, and on my Nexus tablet. My son's tried on his mac.
I've tried clearing cache and cookies and switching off and on my router.
The message is that the site's timed out.
The company says they had problems with the site a couple of days ago but all is now well. isthissitedownorisitjustme.com says the site is up.
So it kinda sounds like the router might be at fault. Can anyone suggest what I could do to solve the problem?
Thanks.

Hi all.
this issues started 2 days ago when I simply wanted to restore the computer to factory settings which seemed to go ok. as normal I uninstalled Norton and loaded comodo which would not update, after a reboot that was sill the case. I then decided to cut my losses and did another factory reset. I then got the following.

Customised icons for folders won't stay the same

Hey, so I started to change my icons for folders (tv series, movies, etc...) on my external hard drive, making the changes on my stationery computer. Everything looked really nice, but when I inserted hard drive into my laptop, the icons were default. Before you ask, the pictures for icons are always in the same folder. For example, my Breakingbad.ico is in Breaking Bad folder on hard drive. Any tips, how to make the icons same on all computers? Thanks in advance! :)

My HDD is failing, has errors and bad sectors. I have been trying to clone it (software and hardware device) before it totally takes a dump but the errors are keeping it from being cloned. Is there any way to repair the drive just enough to get it cloned?

Old Hard Drive into New PC

Hi everyone ,

I'm considering buying a refurbished Dell PC for a family member (see it here) and I have a working Hard Drive out of a Emachine (see it here) that the Motherboard died on.

My question is , Can I put the Hard Drive from the Emachine into the Dell ? If so , will I be able to use the programs that are on the Emachine Hard Drive ? They are wanting to be able to use the Microsoft Office program . Like Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word that was on the old Emachine Hard Drive.

Thanks for your help

reboot error message again

Good morning,

I was getting this a lot until eventually I was getting a new error. Forgot what it said and I'm on my phone since I had to leave home. But the error I was told meant the hard drive would die soon

So now I'm getting that error before I received the deadly one. Reboot and select proper boot device.

So before I had to leave today I noticed my cable. Don't know what it's called but it's next to the sata cables that are plugged in the hard drives on the motheboard. I assume it's to power the hard drives. It's next to the big cable that powers the motherboard.

Should I get a new hard drive?

I'm using an old hard drive on a new pc and this hard drive has tons of cables. Like double compared to my Bros pc. It works now when I readjust it. But the cable keeps coming out lose.

Second monitor crashing laptop

I have a dell xps 15 L502x running windows 7 Home SP1

It has a second monitor connected, doubling the screen side by side. Same resolution - 1920 x 1080. I've had the setup for a long time but now it will crash.

I can be running only internet explorer or a video or a mixture of things and it will crash leaving a colour screen on the second monitor only. Different colours or a mix or a crazy pattern. Most time I have to turn the power off and hard reset but occasionally it will come back to life, but rarely. I have unplugged the second monitor and it's fine.

I have speccy to monitor temps, everything normal around 60/70 degrees.

I've updated the driver direct from dell and NVidia I've updated other drivers I can think of, network etc. I've got the latest bios too.

I've got 16Gb RAM, SSD as the main hdd and it's been cleaned inside and had the heat sink repasted. The issue was before this too so I don't think that is the cause.

I have just put on an bit defender in the last couple of days after only using windows essentials but this hasn't found anything after completing a full scan.

Please help, sometimes it does it every hour, sometimes only once a day or less.

Also..... When the computer was nice and shiny and new I could play call of duty full 1080 no problems.... I can't even start playing now without it crashing at a basic setting.

Thanks in advance.

Creating system image stalls indefinitely

Hello,
I am trying to create a system image of a newly built laptop & it gets to approximately 90+% & just stalls there; no error, no freezing etc, it just sits there.
Ive searched for hours for a solution to no avail. One solution suggested the AV may block it. Ive disabled that and the same thing happens. Im trying to backup the image to an external drive (which Ive done many times before) and Ive tried several different hard drives.
Any advice would be appreciated.
