Problem with Asus Notebook and removable drive.

I have an Asus Notebook with Windows 8. I am having a problem with a Matshita UJDA 740 CDRW/DVD removable drive. The drive shows up in my control panel and says it is working properly. When I insert a disc of any type the light on the front of the unit blinks and nothing else happens. Also I am using a USB2.0 hub. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
