USB 2 Freezes the PC

Hi
Everytime I plug any usb device (from a thumb drive to a printer) to any of the 4 ports on the mobo, the system freezes & to continue I have to unplug power & reboot. The only way I can use the usb ports is by disabling "USB2 Enhanced Host Controller" (red x) in the device manager or disable USB2 in the BIOS.

I had to reinstall OS last year (Jan 2012) & this had been working fine until Feb 2013, maybe when I plugged in the NokiaC202 to transfer data but I am not sure. I cant perform System Restore as no restore points.
The mobo cd has Intel & VIA drivers only upto Win XP SP1. Intel already shows up on device manager (also unable to install) & when I try to install VIA drivers by double clicking the file, it does nothing.
I have tried to go to this location as advised to download compatible drivers but cant find any.

i searched the net, d/l & installed 2 or 3 different drivers but it did not solve prob.
I used "usbdeview" to remove all unwanted items but still no go.
I do not suspect hardware problem as USB1 works. (i hope thats right)
