Taking pictures off old phone, putting them on new...

Not sure what to call this in the subject line. I'm kind of new to "smart phones" and this is something my son wants me to do with his, and thinking maybe someone who knows can give me some tips on this, instead of me trying to figure it out on my own.
My son (who doesnt have a computer) has a Samsung SGH-a77 phone. He's been taking pictures on this for a few years, and they are in the phone (he doesn't have an sd card) He just got a Focus 2 phone, and has asked me if I can take the pictures off his old phoneand upload them onto the new one. (It doesn't have an sd card, but think it has 32 gbs of space). We didn't have a USB cord for the old phone (one came with the new one) so bought one from ebay and waiting for it to come.
I have a Windows XP computer and a laptop with Windows 7 (thinking that one might work better for something like this)
My plan is to plug in the old phone with the USB, see if it comes up in My Computer as a drive (like my phones have done and do) and find the pictures that way. Save them, then plug in the Focus2 find a folder for pictures, and drag them into that.
I haven't tried this yet, so not sure if it will work, I might have to go into settings on the Focus2 and set it for USB first?
To make it more confusing (for me) I just got a new phone, which is an Android and have been trying to figure that out,so have no idea where anything might be on the Focus 2.
There was no user manual with the Focus 2, I told my son I think they are online, and I found one for it, there might be something in there to help with this. But, someone who knows might be able to give me some clues.
Thanks
