How do I burn CD-R discs at a slow speed?

I want to burn image files (BIN) at the slowest speed possible on to 700 mb CD-R blank media discs (I'm using the Phillips brand). I am burning Playstation 1 games and while the actual gameplay only has a few hiccups, the cutscenes lag horribly. I want to be able to play my games as they were meant to. I'm told that burning at lower speeds might solve this problem, but i'm not sure how to do so. I have found that ImgBurn works way better than Alcohol 120% as a burner but the cutscenes still skip and are wretched to watch.

When I try to burn at any speed below 8x in ImgBurn, I get error messages that say.

W 13:14:22 The drive only supports writing these discs at 8x, 24x.
W 13:14:22 Write Speed Miscompare! - Wanted: 176 KB/s (1x), Got: 1,411 KB/s (8x)

And then it proceeds to burn at 8x.

So basically I want to know how to configure my "driver" to burn at slow speeds. I'm not great with this stuff, so I have no idea what driver the error message is talking. I assume its one of three things I found in my device manager. Keep in mind that I am fully running Windows XP (I have Service Pack 2) on a MacBook Pro on an emulation program called VMware Fusion. The three drivers I could find were:
  • My only disk drive called "VMware, VMware Virtual S SCSI Disk Device"
  • One of my DVD/CD ROM-drives called "NECVMWar VMware IDE CDR10"
  • The other DVD/CD-ROM drive called "WDYRCH KXUZ05YNO SCSI CdRom Device"
I'm assuming it's the disk drive, but I'm not sure.

Oh, and here's my specs. I hope someone here can help.
