Not sure if one exists already, but I thought it would be cool if we had a thread where we could talk about our better half....our love/soulmate/life partner/spouse/best friend.
I'll start.
It was about 5 years ago that I helped my better half (John) set up his laptop before our first year of college. I asked him to get the passkey on the router, figuring he'd get a piece of paper, a pencil and note that was listed on the router...the signal went dead, and I realized why when he came to me with the router in his hand! OOPS! :p
Before that...we were classmates in a junior year chem class. We talked a little bit, and there was something about him...I just couldn't put my finger on it. He signed my yearbook with a fake name as a joke (his dad has a thing for wacky pseudonyms)...but thanks to my ADHD my memory for names suck. I kept calling him by the wrong name and thinking "gee, what a jerk, totally ignoring me", realized what happened, and convinced him to sign with his real name.
I played matchmaker for a guy friend and asked him to return the favor. He said there was a "perfect match" and a "guy who would be just a fling". The "perfect" guy was not interested in dating. Four and a half years...some fling, huh?
I later found out my friend was using political ideology.
When we went bowling, I had no idea he'd been in a league for...oh....10 years. No wonder I had my butt handed to me. The guy behind the counter kept staring at us...and later realized that he was surprised to see my boyfriend taking a date to bowl. :D
Our first kiss was on a Friday the 13th. We were going to go rollerskating but Mel yogi (and Dad) were sick that week. Grandparents were away, little brother had no idea how to help...so guess who played nurse? Yeah, I did. Did I mention it was my senior year of high school. I was so exhausted by Friday I told him that we ought to have a quiet night in. I was kinda hoping I could get away for a while. Instead he said he could brave the sick ward. That night, we decided to officially be a pair. :)
Sometimes he makes me laugh, maybe shake my head (see above). There are times he drives me CRAZY. Other times, he is the one thing that keeps me from going completely insane. He's been there when I'm so mad I could cry, so happy I could screech, and so frustrated I want to give up. He's gotten me into Skyrim, comics, and I've managed to make a hockey fan out of him:cool: (he roots for the Bruins...but will occasionally threaten to gift me a Montreal Canadiens jersey...just because). He is an amazing duckpin bowler, a tender man, a quiet thinker, a shameless nerd, and so wonderfully supportive.
This year we spent our anniversary (over spring break) at the Grand Canyon, part of a week long vacation with his maternal grandparents (who were wintering in AZ).
I have no idea what I am going to do next year.
We're both college students (he'll probably be done soon...just finishing up his minor. I have no idea when I'll be done, lol), with limited resources, so I guess a jaunt in the Bahamas will have to wait (probably not a good idea anyway...he is unable to tan without burning first....) Before it is asked...we are not tying the knot until after college...so that's out too.
Alright, I'll stop here before it turns into an epic-length tale. Here are pictures, because it doesn't *feel* quite right to brag about my handsome man without showing off his handsomeness. ;)
