Cookies Adding Up Too Much

Hi, I am using vista and I ran full scans for virus and malware and it came out negitive
I keep deleting my cookies but every couple of hours I see there is almost 5000 of them back again, does this sound like too many, I am not surfing alot but some, I dont remember getting all these cookies so quicly when I had windows Me
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated? Thanks
