Hi everyone,
I have a 'Crucial' brand SSD on it's way. I note the manufacturers advice to touch (ground) myself with the pc prior to handling the SSD.
I see on Amazon that they advertise metal, plastic and aluminium 'platforms' or mounting brackets to install the SSD onto. These are usually to mount in a HDD bay.
I have taken apart an old floppy drive and by drilling 4x holes in the sturdy floppy drive metal base plate, I could (preferably would), mount my SSD in the old floppy drive slot using this metal base.
So, I would be grateful if anyone could please clarify whether it is (or isn') ok to do this, because the SSD would of course be 'grounded' to the pc casing. Is that ok? i.e. it won't damage the SSD please?
Also, I read something in a closed thread about enabling AHCI to use an SSD. I don't know at the mo if mine is enabled, but all being well, I will enable it in the BIOS if it exists (it's not a new machine, lol).
My question re that is: assuming I enable AHCI, can I stil use a normal sata HDD as a second drive? If so will it be affected in any way by AHCI?
I have read about getting the SSD tweak utility to help out.
Thanking everyone in anticipation of some clarification on the above points please. Plus of course, any other tips that members may like to inform me of.
Many thanks,
