YouTube Problem

More and more often I'm getting the 'An error occurred. Please try again later.' message while trying to watch video clips on YouTube.
As far as I'm aware my Adobe Flash Player is up to date but do I also need Adobe Shockwave Player, if I've got that right ?
I use Google Chrome and my O.S. is Windows XP.
I tried to do a 'An error occurred' search in YouTube itself but the video wouldn't play. When clips do decide to play sometimes the clip will abruptly just stop or when I try to change the quality setting from 360p to 480p it almost always fails. Sometimes the clip/page just won't stop loading until I click on 'refresh' and even then it doesn't always work. Anyone any ideas ? I've tried to give as much information as possible. All other sites I visit work fine. This is just a recent problem.
