Hello,
I have a 2-monitor setup:
* One monitor connected via DVI (working well) - call this Monitor A
* Another monitor connected via a cable which takes HDMI output from the computer and converts it to DVI input for the monitor (this is the problematic one) - call this Monitor B.
I'm using a Nvidia GeForce GT 630 graphics card.
So my two-monitor setup has been working fine for many months. When it works well, when booting up, an Asus logo will show on Monitor B, the lights on the "on buttons" for both monitor show that they are receiving input, Windows login will show up on Monitor A, and things work fine.
One day, this problem came up. On boot, Monitor B's light shows that it is not receiving any input, the Asus logo shows up on Monitor A, Windows login shows up on Monitor A, and after login, Windows failed to detect Monitor B and only uses Monitor A.
I've found 3 ways that temporarily (until the computer is shut down) addresses this problem:
1) Keep rebooting the computer multiple times until Monitor B works again.
2) Log into Windows, then plug out the HDMI cable, plug it back in, and keep repeating this until Monitor B works again.
3) When I updated the Nvidia drivers to the latest version, during the installation process, Monitor B suddenly came back alive.
Initially I thought it might be a hardware problem, but when 3) above happened, it now seems to be a software issue, i.e. it is possible to trigger output to Monitor B without rebooting or reconnecting cables.
I have tried to use "My display is not shown..." in Nvidia's control panel, but didn't work.
Would like to seek help on what the issue is, how to fix, and is there some way to force output to the HDMI port even if the system doesn't detect a monitor?
Thank you.
