AVG free anti-virus

Windows XP

I keep getting the following message from my AVG Free anti virus.

AVG ANTIVIRUS FREE

Computer restart required

Your computer needs to be restarted in order to finish the following operation.

Set up or update process

Restart now or remind etc etc.

I restart, but the message will re-occur within a few hours.

Advice would be appreciated to get rid of this message.
