I have a newly re-formatted ( Windows XP Prof sp3) Emachines desktop which I cannot get the sound working. Below are the steps I have tried:
went to device mgr and tried to re-install the audio driver using windows update...would not work
went to the mobo site and d/l driver shown for audio (sigmatel c-major) same results
also download a generic realtek alc880...same results
went to bios and checked if audio was on auto...same results
went to services and verified windows audio was started...same results
Installed an old pci creative audio card and downloaded the correct driver..disabled the onboard device...same results
I am not sure if the card is good as it is old, but where can I look to see if the systems sees it? I looked in device mgr and the yellow "?" was gone on audio but did not see the creative labs card listed.
Any suggestions will be appreciated
