First off I'd like to say if I'm posting in the wrong section I do apologize. This is my first time to the website, and as far as I can tell I can't seem to find any posts relating to my problem so I thought it'd be best to post here.
A few weeks ago my mother called me to tell me about this "US Department of Justice" virus that showed up on her computer, telling me about how she can start her computer but the desktop screen is immediately locked by this image/message claiming to be from the DoJ.
I've done some research on my own, and now I've decided to remove it myself. According to the vast majority of guides I've looked into there are instructions stating about how you should first try entering safe mode on the system.
Well here's my problem - I can't get into safe mode. I can get the options to go into safe mode, but when I actually select Safe Mode, I get a window that says
"Please select the operating system to start:
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Microsoft Windows Recovery Console
Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice.
Press ENTER to choose.
For troubleshooting and advanced startup options for Windows, press F8"
And in blue, at the very bottom of the screen in the left hand corner I have the words Safe Mode.
Now this is what's driving me nuts; it seems no matter what I try, I cannot boot into any Safe Mode - (Safe Mode, SM with Networking, SM with Command Prompt) The best way I can describe it, if I select an option it's like it goes into a mini loop and brings me to a screen that says;
"Please select the operating system to start:
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Microsoft Windows Recovery Console"
Has anyone ever dealt with this virus before? I've tried other methods but I can't say I've had much luck, even with the programs installed on my flash drive I can't seem to remove it (I was under the impression from one of the guides that if I had a specific program installed on my flash drive, it would automatically load if it was plugged into my computer)
