Dell Inspiron 1720 Won't Connect to Wireless

Hello. I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop that will not connect to wireless. I am sitting right beside my wireless modem and the laptop is showing my modem in the available networks with a full signal. My modem is set to WPA with an encrypted password. I have the connection info the same on the laptop to connect. I have also tried setting the modem to "Open" with no password, and still I cannot connect.
