I wasn't real sure if this should go in Hardware or Networking.. so moderators if I've got this wrong, please feel free to move it :)
I've got a Acer Aspire X1800 that I'm using for a media machine, its got an American Megatrends bios, its running windows 7 ultimate 64-bit, that I want to get setup with WOL but having some issues.
Firstly, theres no WOL option in the BIOS (which is the latest version), however there is options for wake on PCI-E & Modem Ring, and when the machine is switched off the link light on the nic stays on, and the activity light occasionally flashes.
If the computer is asleep I can wake it, but not from switched off - because I can wake it from sleep, and also the network port clearly has power when the machine is switched off, I feel that this should be viable.
Other settings I have in the BIOS are:
Deep Sleep = Disabled
Sleep Type = S1 (Have also tried this on S3)
I know there are some BIOSes that have hidden options, not sure if this is one of them or not, or would it be possible to flash it with a generic american megatrends BIOS instead of the acer branded one that might give me the WOL option?
Would be really handy to have it working as the old old old IBM Thinkcentre that this thing replaced had it, and it worked like a treat.
