Can't connect to web

I am attaching a screenshot that shows that I tried to go to google and I just received a New Tab in Firefox even though I was connected to my router.

This happens frequently and can usually be resolved by rebooting. When I use Chrome I get a message that says:
This webpage is not found

I would appreciate any guidance. I've never seen this anywhere before.
