registry cleaners???

Hi Everybody.
Not really another post on registry cleaners, but a thankyou to this forum. Believing the hype around these programs I stupidly installed what I thought was a freeware of RegCure from Parentlogic who seemed like a proper software supplier. All it did was scan my computer and tell me I had to pay $20 (I think) to fix the almost 1000 faults and errors I had. I'm amazed my pc is still working!

Walking away from their generous offer I closed down the program and got on with other things. Problem though! Every time I booted up my pc, this RegCure opened up and took time to scan my computer, telling me every time I had 1000 errors.

Simple answer. Go into Control Panel (Windows XP, Home ed.) and use "add or remove software" to delete it. Strangest thing though - RegCure did not show up in the list of programs that could be deleted. How did they do that?

Panic! After getting things like Spy Sherrif and Fun Moods that were difficult to get rid of, in the past!

Surfed "How do I get rid of RegCur" and finally ended up here. A person called Apadana had asked the same Q way back in 2008, but then found the answer for themselves. They searched for the prog on their C drive and found it and deleted it, so that is what I did. Panic over. Couldn't put my thanks on the string because it was closed, but can here. Thanks Apadana!

Then surfed this forum for more info on registry cleaners and quickly found they are not thought particularly highly of here. So will be leaving them alone.

As far as Paretologic is concerned, they look like a proper software company and I found several good reviews for them from what appeared to be pucca independent software consultant websites that looked the proper stuff. The daft thing is that if Paretologic is a proper firm, they are doing themselves no favours whatsoever by suckering people to down load a useless prog and then not making it straight forward to get rid of it. In the end it was not difficult, but what have Paretologic gained? In my short panic all that Paretologic achieved was to irritate me. I certainly won't be looking at any of their stuff again.

So then, can anybody tell me if Paretologic is a proper software company or not?

And what about the reviewers who recommended them?

SIR, Software Industry report, said RegCur was a good program. http://softwareindustryreport.com/report/regcure/

and Consumer's Guide said it could be trusted.

Are they for real? In this day and age of ever more sophisticated scams, how do we know?
