I have an image that is imbedded into my desk top that won't allow me to remove it. The image is just the outline of a box that is the size of a ghosted icon box, with a red 'x' in the top left corner. It does not allow me to do anything with it. I cannot drag it and if I right click on it, it is the same as right clicking on my desk top; just gives me the desktop properties pop-up.
This appeared a couple weeks ago when I received a trusted and expected email with a txt file I needed. I tried to drag and drop the text file from email to my desktop, which it did, but then it would not open. I was able to open the file directly from email, then saved to a different folder. When I was finished with the text file I had saved off, I deleted it, and then the note pad icon on the file I had dragged turned to the box with red x.
I have run CCleaner Pro with both the cleanup and fix registry options and run MalWare app with no luck in picking it up. I also changed out my background, and removed background altogether with it just leaving the box in place. In trying different things, I had also changed the resolution on my monitor, which seemed to have moved the location of the box from my line of active app icons to a spot further to right of the screen. When I set the resolution back to original, it move the box a little further to the right. It did not change the behavior when trying to remove though.
Any ideas on how to remove this would be greatly appreciated.
