Hi guys,
First off, I'm new to the forums so let me know if I'm doing anything right, wrong, or if anything needs more elaboration.
I'm using an HP notebook (2b22-DX) with Windows 8.1 Preview. The wireless adapter in question is (if I remember correctly) a Ralink RT5390R. I can usually connect to the internet just fine, but I don't take the laptop many places except a friend's house. His internet is buggy in that it goes down a lot, but I don't think that'd have anything to do with the problem I'm having. My internet will work fine every time I use it, the only exception being after I return from using his Wi-Fi. My other devices (an iPod Touch and Galaxy S3) will pick up the Wi-Fi with no issues, just like my family's other devices.
As I said, all goes well until I go to my friend's house. I can usually connect with no trouble to his network, but when I return home there is almost always an issue with the network adapter (guessing on this one). If I turned the computer off for the five minute drive, then there's a chance that viewing the driver's properties window will say it was corrupted or failed to load properly. An uninstall and reboot will let it load properly, however it will not pick up any Wi-Fi networks (usually listed as mine and two weak signals from the neighbors' networks), simply saying that the Wi-Fi adapter is fully functional, just not picking up anything (even with a router reset and/or a reboot w/o uninstall this time). I've downloaded updates to the driver manually, and nothing has worked no matter what update version I'm using. Could this be a hardware issue? I only have a slightly more than basic knowledge of the hardware, so I'd hate to tamper without knowing anything more.
