External Drive failure

I have a Hitachi external drive that has performed well for the last two years. Lately, however it hangs up after about 20-30 minutes of power up. It will agsain work properly after a power down for five or ten minutes and a power up, but then will fail again after 20-30 minutes of operation. Looks like an over-heating problem.

So... is it junk? Should I just try to transfer the data to another drive and deep six this one or is there some way to save it?
