Hey. I recently discovered the call info tab in Skype and I've been trying to troubleshoot general video problems. A few questions:
1) What does UDP Status mean? I noticed I got local:bad when connecting from a tethered smartphone connection instead of my home internet. I'm sure mobile data isn't as good for Skype as home internet but I'm wondering why the UDP status dropped when our sent/received bandwidth wasn't too bad.
2) What are the factors that cause packet loss? Is router speed one of them? I use a wired connection and my packet loss is always 0%, but I noticed it was also 0 (or close to it) when I connected wirelessly to my router, while my girlfriend with a slower router usually hovers around 1-2%.
Also, what are the observable symptoms of packet loss?
3) is Relays ideally supposed to be 0? I've seen it change from 0 to 4 without really changing anything on my end.
4) What do the various FPS counts mean? For both video capture and video send I usually see 15/30 but I'm not sure what the slash means.
5) How much up/down bandwidth does skype need for the transfer quality to count as Good? I usually get ~250kBps up and down with a 25Mbps down/10Mbps up DSL connection. I'm not sure how much skype is using or if that's as high as it can get with my connection.
In general, I'm trying to figure out what some of these statistics mean to see if we can get smoother video chats without increasing bandwidth, because my ISP doesn't have fiber optics yet.
