I recently purchased a WD Black 2TB internal HDD to replace the hard drive inside my old and failing My Book.
When connected, the virtual CD drive shows up, but says that the drive may be corrupted. The rest of the partition doesn't even show up under my computer. I can see that the HDD is there via computer/manage/storage/disk management, but I can't format or change security settings on it in any way. It doesn't show up via cmd/diskpart/list volume when I use elevated command prompt either. Using the stock formatting tools and HP's USB formatting software, they recognize the drive, but give the same error. "Disk is write protected."
*Summary -
Doesn't show up under My computer.
Doesn't show up under cmd/diskpart/list volume.
Does show up using formatting software, but no ability to format.
