I'm just going to give the extended version of this problem here since I don't know where along the line I caused the problem.
My laptop had Windows 7 on it, but was starting to run slowly. I wanted to find an alternative that was more lightweight. I had windows xp available but decided to try out Ubuntu first. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 and didn't like it. Now I'm trying to go to Windows XP but during the installation the only drive that is detected to install on is the thumb drive. My actual hard drive doesn't appear, I believe because it's formatted to ext3 as that's what Ubuntu uses.
I can't use Windows Recovery Tool to reformat the drive because it's not detected as even being there.
I can't reformat it while in Ubuntu because you can't reformat the drive that you're currently installed on.
I thought installing xp would be a breeze but could really use some help.
