I am in the process of dumping AT&T DSL in favor of Comcast Broadband. (Considering their "performance" package at 25mbps) to replace my current overpriced 1.5 mbps DSL. (It was the only thing I could get in my subdivision about 12 years ago).
I have been running a Netgear N300 ADSL2+ Modem/Router and two Linksys WRT54G2's configured as wireless access points in my 3 level home for the last 3 or 4 years with virtually no problems.
I am no where close to expert, but not a novice either. I was able to set up the above with a little help and advice from this forum.
I would appreciate any advice regarding hardware, etc. I am looking at a Motorola SBG6580 as it is about the only combo modem router on their "approved" list.
I am not heavy into gaming etc. but, I would like to be able to download maps to my garmin gps in less than 4 hours and download the occasional movie in less than the current 8 hours. I would hope to also get better response from two iPads, and two smart phones that run on my network.
By the way, also going to dump AT&T voice in favor of an Ooma Telo if that makes any difference. Looking at prices, I can pay for voice and HSI for less $$ than I currently pay to AT&T.:)
