Bed, Bath, & Beyond Exclusive LED Lamp

I got this lamp 1 or 2 years ago using a discount coupon. I liked it because everyone was taking the other lamps I liked and this lamp no one would want. Also, it used LEDs. The switch is a little faulty. If the light flickers, you have to push down on the switch so that everything inside regains proper contact. But, I don't think I can fix it without destroying the switch and having to solder in a new one. But, that's just a minor fault that doesn't happen that often.

I was doing some chores when the lamp fell over. Unfortunately, when it did, the lamp broke off of the base:

Apparently, the base was made of glass. Initially, my first thought was to just pick up as many glass shards as I could. But, as I was holding the metal neck, I suddenly realized it was light enough that it could be mounted on just about any kind of surface. (For later reference, the lamp had a nut and some washers around the metal glass, I suspect, so that the glass wouldn't break easily.)

I realized I had a couple of blank disc containers lying around:

So, I took one and started working on it. I drilled a hole in the top that was just large enough for me to be able to screw the base of the metal pole into it (the metal pole was threaded for attaching the nut, in case you didn't realize). I placed one washer on the base of the metal pole before screwing it into the hole (for stability). I placed the other washer on the other side before screwing on the nut.

When I tried putting it back together, I suddenly realized the peg that held the blank discs was too long and needed to be cut off. I'm sure that there's a special saw for cutting plastic. However, plastic is so durrable that I just grabbed a saw and cut it off.

Here's the final result:

Obviously, it has a slight lean. However, I think I can fix that by sticking a stabilizing stick of some kind up through the hole, newly created by cutting off the peg, up into the metal rod, which is hollow for placing the wire. As for weighing it down, just glue some weights to the inside of the black part of the plastic case.
