Ps3 to soundbar

I`m not sure if I am posting in the correct location, if not please move me to the correct location.

I have my Ps3 connected by HDMI to tv and I have a soundbar with optical cable to tv,
I have tried to connect Ps3 to soundbar direct with AVR from Ps3 to red and white input on soundbar but when I turn off tv the sound from Ps3 goes off.
Is it possible to listen to music on Ps3 via soundbar without the tv on ??
