Wifi connects to Internet, programs don't.

My laptop connects to my home router and shows connection to the Internet, but the only program that connects is Windows Update. My browsers - Firefox, Pale Moon, IE, Chrome, & Comodo Dragon - all are unable to connect. None of my other updatable programs can connect either (security programs, driver updaters, etc. I am sending this from my desktop).
I run Win7 Home Premium SP3 on an HP G-60. The router is a Netgear N600.
We have Optimum Online, but I had the same problem with FiOS.
My home wifi works fine with our tablets and smartphones. My router supports 802.11g and n, as does the laptop. They connect over n.
I ran all the tools available via the Control Panel to no effect.
I used to use Comodo Firewall but tech support at my school required me to remove it and use only Windows Firewall. I went into the firewall settings and set permission for all browsers and other programs with no effect.
Back when my antimalware programs were up to date, scans showed no problems.
I have run out of good ideas. Please help.
