I'm in the process of configuring a new server for a client, who has 3 XP workstations (which they will be upgrading soon to Win7 or 8), and one Win7 and one Win8 computer. (server running 2008 R2)
What I'm looking to do is allow each user to login to any of the computers, and have their "My Documents" folder redirected to their user share on the server.
Currently I have group policies for the following:
The problem I am having is that the folder redirection only works for one user (out of three, currently), and even though this works, it tries to "sync" the offline files. The client doesn't want to sync offline files - they just want the folder to be redirected to the user share on the server.
Also, the Win7 and Win8 computers hibernate/sleep when not in use, which makes it difficult for me to remote into these machines during off-hours to try and fix the other issues going on. I can't seem to locate a GPO that will disable power management on these machines. (And I will have the same issue once the client replaces the XP machines.)
What is the best way to fix these issues, so folder redirection works properly, WITHOUT syncing a local copy? And how can I allow users to install applications without having to enter an admin username and password, but not give them admin rights?
I'd prefer to do everything via group policy, but if that is not possible, then a login script or something similar will have to do.
Thanks in advance!

Currently I have group policies for the following:
- Folder redirection from My Documents to the server
- granting each user local administrator rights (to avoid the need to enter a username and password when they need to install a program)
- Mapping network printers
- Mapping network shares
