Windows Vista Explorer freezes on log-in

Greetings,

I have a laptop running Windows Vista, and it's experiencing freeze issues on logging in to Windows. It boots correctly, auto-logs in correctly, and during execution of start-up programs, it freezes. First, with a mobile cursor, then after attempting to interact with explorer (opening the start menu, a folder on the desktop, etc.), it freezes.

This is following some routine software updates - specifically to WinRAR, Flash Player, and CCleaner.

Things I have tried thus far:
- Searching the forums
- Google
- Booting into Safe Mode (successful, no issues)
- Running Malware Bytes (no threats detected)
- Running TDSSKiller (6 objects detected, threats removed, no change to freeze issue out of Safe Mode)
- Uninstalling recently updated programs (no change)
- Disabling all Start Up modules via msconfig (no change)

I tried to install HijackThis in Safe Mode before coming to the forums for a more complete picture, however, I received an error on installation that stated it was not possible to install HijackThis from Safe Mode.
