Stream Media stored on Windows PC to Ubuntu

I have a desktop with Windows 8 connected to my wireless router.

I then have a laptop with Ubuntu 12.04 connected to the same wireless router.

How do I stream/view media(films,music,pictures) stored on Windows on my Ubuntu laptop?

I have googled but i'm very confused by the whole process. I am a linux beginner.
