Catalogue files

Hi all, I need a bit of assistance and not sure where to post, like most people I have a lot of files mainly graphics and I want to catalog these so that i can find them easily, here is an example

I have a directory called Christmas picture frames.
These are frames graphics in different file formats (jpg,tiff, png)
the frame are metal or wood
Children theme
Adult theme
Christmas tree
Christmas scene
Snow
Christmas balls

I think in search engine this is put in the meta something of the files, but how can I manage this for my files on my drive or DVD? Is there some software I can look at? I hope I made myself clear
