Sound/light controls on laptop

Hello I am new and not sure if this is the right place to post this but here it goes:
I am working in the sound booth at church and would like to simplify the controls without getting to expensive. We have a soundboard and a.......unique... lighting control arrangement. I want to be able to control the lighting from a laptop. We just need to be able to dim and turn on/off several different sets of lights independently. I would also like to be able to control sound from the laptop if it doesnt affect quality or usability. How would one go about doing this?
