BSODs and crashes - need some help!

Hey all, I'm working on a PC for my aunt, which is experiencing random crashes, where it will freeze for a bit, and then kicks to a BSOD (or doesn't). I've been having extreme trouble pinpointing what's causing these issues. I've been unable to run a virus scan as the pc has crashed each time that I've tried.

So I just got up to go look at it, and chkdsk is just going through saying that each "file record segment is corrupt." I was going to submit the .dmp files from the crashes but that's looking like its not gonna happen.

At this point I'm guessing that I'm looking at a total HDD failure. Anyone have any advice here? Recovering data is not the highest priority (would be nice), and since this repair is for my aunt buying a new HDD is an option... let me know your thoughts, and thanks in advance.

EDIT: I've just managed to get into the OS, so all might not be lost... HP has a reinstallation tool available to set the system up clean, and I'm considering using it, but if we're talking about a hardware related failure here, that probably won't do much good. Going to see what I can save to an external drive and report back.

EDIT 2: Was poking around in the files and had a random shutdown. Next time I get the system up I'll try to pull the .dmp files before it fails. HP's built in diagnostics tool reports passes on processor and ram, but now seems to have frozen.

EDIT 3: The following link leads to my imgur gallery, which at the moment contains only a few screens from the PC in question. Most of these screens are from chkdsk so that maybe someone more knowledgeable can see the various files etc. that it's choking on and offer some more targeted advice. http://agentwiggles.imgur.com/all/
