First time user of a Tablet

Please, no criticism...it was a gamble. I came across an HSN informercial on a Next Book 7" android tablet. I was impressed with the demostration, so I purchased one...$129 excluding tax. When I received it, I read the "quick" manual. At first I got up to the point where it warned me that in order to get to the browser and the pre installed apps ( Google ) I had to make sure that i had wi-fi connection. I had to call D_Link to set it up and boy was that alone a hassle...but all went well and so I rebooted the tablet and got as far as the browser to enter a link that the manual had in order to get the apps. The first thing I noticed ..it said "service unavailable"...huh??? I was able to see the keyboard but found it intimidating to type url's even with my small, thin fingers. I called support and after a long wait, finally got someone and just as he was to help me, my battery was down to 2% and I had to cut the call short and recharge the battery. My point is, why would I get 'service unavailable"? I also read the status of my wi-fi connection and it said it was poor to fair connection and the reading was 802.1 g, I believe. My new router has the "n" capacity...why wouldn't I get that reading, if its faster and better reception? Also, do i have to take in account my wi-fi readings in the future as i hope to update a tablet purchase and get the same results? My router is connected downstairs next to desktop, where I was upstairs in my bedroom of a duplex. In other words a tablet is only good as far as wi-fi connections???
